New Fiat Doblo: fall of the design
The first Fiat Doblo, which came in 2001 was ugly. After that in 2005 it received a facelift and became even uglier. Now we are expecting the ugliest version of Doblo. How can somebody buy this car, it is not good-looking, it is not agile, it is not big enough and even it is not cheap.
It is targeted to men with big families and we wonder, who will buy a vehicle, which looks like Multipla - the ugliest car of the century. Obviously there is something wrong with our taste for cars, because the previous model is sold in more than one million units.
Some of the figures about new Doblo - the wheelbase of 2755 mm is the biggest in its segment. The luggage compartment is 790 litre, seven seats and the lowest CO2 emissions in its category - 129 g/km with the 1.3 Multijet 90 HP engine.
Fiat Doblo will be available with 4 engines at its launch. A petrol with 95hp and three diesel Multijet engines delivering 90, 105 and 135 HP. The engine range is available with Euro 4 and Euro 5 versions and offers a Start&Stop device as standard to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
The safety systems, which Fiat Doblo features are ABS with electronic brake force distribution EBD and ESP complemented by a hill-holder system, which helps the driver during Hill starts and comes as standard on this model. The last is completely unnecessary, but it rises the price. The passive safety features crumple zones, front air bags and innovative front side bags.
The equipment is at descent level and includes an automatic climate control system with distribution to rear seats, cruise control, parking sensors, a built-in Blue&Me hands-free system and a "Blue&Me TomTom" navigator.
Fiat Doblo will be available in Cargo variant. It offers a more roomy load compartment than the previous model: square, regular, fully exploitable and equipped with sliding side doors and generously-sized rear doors to make light work of loading and unloading operations. Record-breaking statistics (interior length up to 2.2 metres, width between wheel arches of 1.23 metres, volume from 3.4 to 4.2 cubic metres, payload from 750 to 1000 Kg, combined fuel consumption of 4.8 litres/100 km and range of 1250 Km with the 1.3 Multijet engine) ensure that the new vehicle can offer substantial benefits in terms of optimization and reduction of running costs.
There will be a range of 7 different body types: short and long wheelbase van, high top van, short and long wheelbase 5-seater combi; a particularly appealing and brand-new short and long drop-framed version can be easily and cheaply converted for specific trades.
Fiat Doblo models will be launched from mid-January 2010 and available to order from the end of November in Italy and from December in other European markets.
Finally, this is one of the few cars in which we cant find anything interesting.
