Farewell: Toyota to end production of FJ Cruiser in August
Unfortunately it is true that Toyota FJ Cruiser is going to end its production in August this year. So, this literally means that there will be one last chance for those wishing to buy this amazing vehicle. The retro-inspired off-roader was actually released in Australia five years ago. Since then from the model have been sold in more than 11,000 units. The real inspiration behind the FJ Cruiser is the famed FJ40: a basic, capable and affordable vehicle, which finds its perfect place off-road.
In other words, the Cruiser is aimed at serious off-roaders looking to push the limits. Well, it is also a contemporary variant of the classic FJ40. For instance there is a front grille with two round headlights, which recalls the FJ40's frontal styling; the bonnet and wheel-arch contours and a rear-mounted and exposed full-size spare tyre also mimic the predecessor.

One of the main benefits of the FJ Cruiser is that it is functional in its design. Precisely, the side access doors open 90 degrees in clamshell way for easy access to and from the rear seats; there is a swing-up glass, which is "mounted" into the side-hinged tailgate, opening independently, etc.
The off-road capability is ensured by the 272 hp (200kW) and 380Nm (281 lb-ft) 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The off-roader also features part-time 4x4, an electrically activated rear differential lock and switchable Active Traction Control technology.
Other goodies include heavy-duty all-coil suspension and power steering, 17-inch alloy wheels and 70-profile tyre; safety features like six airbags, vehicle stability control, anti-skid brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution, active front-seat head restraints and a reversing camera with the display; rear parking sensors, rear fog lamps, privacy glass, cruise control, air-conditioning, a premium steering wheel with audio controls, multi-information display, eight-speaker audio system with a CD stacker and central locking, and many more.
Since 2001 Toyota FJ Cruiser has been offered in a total of 13 exterior colors. However, the final exterior color palette comprises of French Vanilla, Sandstorm, Ebony, Hornet Yellow, Red Fury, Retro Blue and Cement. The vehicle is still available to order within a single grade and high level of specification. It is priced from $46,990 USD.
