Ford Focus BEV will appear for the first time on "The Jay Leno Show"
The actress Drew Barrymore will accept the "Green Car Challenge" – a rubric part of "The Jay Leno Show". The car, which will be used through the first season of the Challenge will be the new Ford Focus powered only by electricity. The celebrities will be behind the wheel, driving quickly to establish a fast lap time.
The electric Focus in the show is based on five door hot hatchback Focus ST. It is modified into battery electric vehicle ( BEV ). The electric hatch will be available in 2011. This is one of the four electrified vehicles Ford introducing now through 2012. The goal is to to deliver best-in-class fuel efficiency.
The Focus BEV was completed just in six weeks. The engine from the original ST was changed with electric one with all complementary modules. The weight distribution is almost perfect 50/50 between front and rear axle. The front suspension is the same with the original coming with the Focus ST. The rear is unique specially for Leno's Focus BEV. With Recaro racing seats, a full roll cage, a five-point racing harness and wearing a unique (and fitting) "Electric Orange" paint scheme, the battery-electric Focus ST is ready for racing.
The Ford Focus BEV is capable of doing up to 80 miles on a charge and the peak power of the electric motor is 141 horsepower.
