Volkswagen Golf R 333 Limited Edition (2023)
Volkswagen Golf R 333 Limited Edition
Introducing the Golf R 333 Limited Edition, it's time to unveil the showstopper! This fresh-out-of-the-box model, restricted to a mere 333 cars, is based on the mighty Golf R Performance and packs a punch with an impressive output of 333 PS (245 kW). With its all-wheel-drive special edition, get ready for exceptional driving stability and traction, courtesy of top-notch features like R-Performance Torque Vectoring and Vehicle Dynamics Manager. The Golf R 333 showcases a stunning Lime Yellow Metallic paint job, straight from the factory. The special edition also amps up its appeal with sleek black accents, making it a potential collector's item.
“The Golf R 333 is the first R model with a specification predefined by us that leaves no customer wishes regarding performance unfulfilled – thanks to its extensive equipment,” says Hakim Halimi, Head of Product Marketing at Volkswagen R. The standout features include R-Performance Torque Vectoring with Vehicle Dynamics Manager, not only distributing power between the front and rear axles but also among the two rear wheels. This adds a special touch of sportiness, especially during cornering. Additionally, the Drift and Special driving profiles, designed for the Nürburgring racetrack, bring extra joy beyond public roads. The R Performance exhaust system by Akrapovi?, featuring titanium rear silencers, and black 19-inch Estoril wheel rims with semi-slick tires, further accentuate the motorsports character of this special-edition model. The top speed has also been boosted to 270 km/h.
The decision to limit the edition was inspired by the mighty engine output of 245 kW (333 PS), making it the most powerful Golf variant with a torque of 420 newton meters. Moreover, the optimized engine tuning ensures an extremely responsive throttle response. The turbocharger maintains a constant speed during partial-load driving, resulting in quicker power delivery for subsequent acceleration. Furthermore, the open throttle valve during overrun phases enhances dynamics and on-road performance. When the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator and then accelerates again, it allows for a faster build-up of engine torque, noticeably improving the engine's responsiveness. Clocking in at 4.6 seconds for the 0 to 100 km/h, the Golf R 333 Limited Edition sets the best-in-class benchmark (compared to key competitors).
The Lime Yellow Metallic paintwork expands the color palette for the Golf R, which already includes Pure White, Lapiz Blue Metallic, and Deep Black Pearl Effect. “With the special exterior colour, black-painted roof and design decals with 333 logo on the sides, this Golf R will be offered in a combination that is unique up to now,” says Halimi. “It is the first Volkswagen R model with a strict limitation to 333 units and with a sequentially numbered badge in the interior.”
The standard equipment also boasts premium sport seats upholstered in Nappa leather, complete with integrated head restraints, and the powerful IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, inclusive of the Light and Vision package. State-of-the-art driver-assist systems are bundled in the IQ.DRIVE package, featuring Travel Assist, Lane Assist lane-keeping system, Emergency Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop & go functionality. The Golf R 333 Limited Edition is also equipped with a front center airbag and a rearview camera system. To ensure perfect sound within the cabin, there's a Harman Kardon system with 8+1 loudspeakers and a total output of 480 W.
The Golf R holds an iconic status, with over 250,000 orders placed since 2002 for this Volkswagen R bestseller. “The Golf R 333 Limited Edition is extremely important for our brand,” says Peter Jost, Head of Marketing & Sales, Volkswagen R. “It is precisely such limited and high-performance vehicles that turbocharge the Volkswagen R brand – a genuine eye-catcher and extremely attractive. Every customer can be sure that they have an extremely rare vehicle and a potential collector’s item in their garage.”
Priced starting at 76,410 euros, the special-edition model can be ordered at German dealerships from June 2nd. Production of all 333 vehicles in Wolfsburg is set for September this year, ensuring that the first models can be handed over to customers by October. Additionally, a customer event at Autostadt is planned for all Golf R 333 Limited Edition buyers who pick up their vehicles in Wolfsburg, Germany, in October.
